They were looking for someone who could help them win the next contract and continue to build a strong relationship with the DoD. The Approach We focused our attention on doctors who had experience working with either the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) or the US Department of Health & Human Services (HHS). We were looking for a leader who could bring knowledge and experience of value based care and population health. It was also necessary for the candidate to have knowledge of alternative payment methodologies as the 2017 legislation changed the military healthcare delivery system so that it moved away from being ASO/self-funded to a system focused on risk sharing. The challenge was that we could not recruit any individuals who were too closely connected to the Defense Health Agency or the Department of Defense as our client could not hire anyone with insider knowledge or connections to the upcoming contract bid. The Result The placed candidate had spent time working at both HHS and CMS and was a population health and value based care expert. She spent two years as a Health Care Advisor to the White House and was comfortable building relationships and interacting with government officials. Following her experience working within the government sector, the candidate spent time leading Value-based Care & Innovation for a regional health plan, where she gained experience working in a matrixed environment. We successfully placed a diverse leader into the role who has made a positive impact on the organization and is working towards the next contract bid.
