Back to all jobs SVP, Deputy General Counsel | Total Wine & More Submit Job Description Garrison has been retained by Total Wine & More , the nation’s largest independent retailer of wine, spirits, and beer, to recruit a Senior Vice President, Deputy General Counsel for its headquarters in Bethesda, Maryland. This is a significant leadership opportunity with a highly successful, privately held company. Reporting directly to the General Counsel, the Deputy GC will serve as the second-in-command of the legal department, overseeing day-to-day legal operations and serving as a strategic advisor to executive leadership. The position will have direct or indirect responsibility for approximately 30 professionals across the Legal and Loss Prevention functions. The Deputy GC will oversee a broad portfolio of legal matters, including commercial transactions, regulatory compliance, licensing, employment, litigation, corporate governance, and enterprise risk management. The role will also support the company’s continued growth through acquisitions, strategic partnerships, store expansion, and other business initiatives. Ideal candidates will have: 15+ years of progressive legal experience, including substantial in-house leadership experience and a demonstrated ability to manage sophisticated legal teams. Prior experience in a highly regulated industry, particularly retail or consumer products, is highly desired. Broad legal expertise across commercial transactions, regulatory compliance, litigation, employment, corporate governance, and strategic business initiatives. Proven success advising C-suite executives and collaborating across multiple business functions. Exceptional leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to develop talent and manage competing priorities.
