Role Overview for VP Commercialization, FoodTech – Boston, MA
We are seeking a seasoned and strategic Vice President of Commercialization to architect and execute our client’s comprehensive go-to-market strategy. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, you will be a pivotal member of the executive team, responsible for translating cutting-edge product innovation into significant market share and revenue growth. This role is the critical link between R&D, product development, and the end consumer. You will be tasked with building and leading a world-class commercial organization encompassing sales, marketing, business development, and customer success.
The ideal candidate is a master strategist with a hands-on, entrepreneurial spirit. You have a proven track record of successfully launching innovative products in the CPG or food and beverage space, ideally with direct experience in the FoodTech sector. You are not just a leader; you are a builder. You thrive in fast-paced, ambiguous environments and possess the unique ability to craft a compelling brand narrative, build robust sales channels, and forge strategic partnerships that accelerate growth. Your leadership will be instrumental in defining the company’s commercial trajectory, establishing it as a category leader, and ultimately, shaping the future of food.
Key Responsibilities of VP Commercialization, FoodTech – Boston, MA
As the VP of Commercialization, you will own the entire commercial lifecycle. Your responsibilities will be broad and impactful, requiring a blend of strategic foresight and tactical execution. You will:
Develop & Execute Go-to-Market (GTM) Strategy
Design, implement, and continuously refine a multi-channel GTM strategy for the company’s product portfolio. This includes conducting in-depth market segmentation, defining target customer profiles, establishing compelling value propositions, and crafting powerful product positioning and messaging that resonates in a competitive market.
Build & Lead High-Performance Sales Functions
Architect the company’s sales organization from the ground up. This includes establishing sales methodologies, setting ambitious yet achievable revenue targets, and building out channels across retail, foodservice, and direct-to-consumer (DTC). You will personally engage in key account negotiations and build a culture of sales excellence.
Drive Marketing & Brand Development
Oversee the development and execution of an integrated marketing strategy to build brand awareness, drive consumer demand, and establish thought leadership. This includes managing brand strategy, digital marketing, PR, content creation, social media, and trade marketing initiatives.
Champion Product Launch Excellence
Serve as the commercial lead for all new product introductions. Lead cross-functional teams, including R&D, Operations, and Finance, to ensure seamless and successful product launches that meet commercial objectives and timelines.
Own Commercial P&L and Forecasting
Take full ownership of the commercial budget and P&L. Develop sophisticated revenue forecasts, manage departmental budgets, and implement a data-driven pricing strategy to optimize for both market penetration and profitability.
Leverage Market Intelligence & Analytics
Establish a robust framework for gathering and analyzing market data, competitive intelligence, and consumer insights. Utilize this data to inform strategic decisions, identify new market opportunities, and mitigate potential risks. Your analysis will be crucial for understanding the evolving landscape of alternative proteins and consumer preferences.
Forge Strategic Partnerships
Identify, negotiate, and manage strategic partnerships with distributors, co-manufacturers, key retailers, and other industry players to expand market reach and create synergistic value.
Recruit, Mentor, and Lead a World-Class Team
Build and nurture a high-performing commercial team. Foster a collaborative, innovative, and accountable culture. Provide strong mentorship and professional development opportunities to attract and retain top-tier talent.
Serve as a Key Executive Leader
Act as a vital member of the senior leadership team, contributing to the overall company strategy, culture, and long-term vision. Effectively communicate commercial plans, progress, and results to the CEO, board of directors, and investors.
