About the job
Blue Ocean Hire has been engaged to support privately owned, rapidly growing PBM built around a fundamentally different approach to pharmacy benefits = one focused on transparency, flexibility, accountability, and delivering measurable value to clients. As the Vice President of PBM Sales, you will have the opportunity to play a defining role in the company's growth. This is not a "manage an existing book" sales position; it is a builder's opportunity to develop the commercial strategy, expand market presence, establish executive relationships, and help shape how the organization competes in a highly dynamic PBM marketplace. Reporting to the CEO, the VP of PBM Sales will own the company's business development strategy and be a key member of the leadership team. You will leverage your relationships across employers, brokers, consultants, health plans, TPAs, and other healthcare organizations to create new opportunities, develop strategic partnerships, and drive profitable growth. You will have significant autonomy and the ability to influence go-to-market strategy, sales positioning, pricing, partnerships, and commercial infrastructure while working closely with executive leadership, clinical, operations, analytics, and pharmacy teams. What You'll Own Develop and execute a comprehensive PBM sales and business development strategy. Build and manage a high-value pipeline of employer, broker, consultant, and strategic partner opportunities. Establish trusted relationships with senior executives, benefits leaders, brokers, consultants, and other industry decision-makers. Personally lead complex, consultative sales opportunities from initial conversation through contract execution. Clearly articulate the organization's differentiated PBM model, economics, capabilities, and client value proposition. Develop strategic partnerships that expand distribution and accelerate market penetration. Identify emerging market opportunities, competitive trends, and evolving employer pharmacy-benefit needs. Partner with leadership to refine pricing, packaging, positioning, and commercial strategy. Build the foundation for a scalable sales organization as the company grows. Represent the organization at industry events and within the broader pharmacy-benefits community. What We're Looking For We are seeking an accomplished PBM sales executive and industry relationship builder who understands how pharmacy benefits are bought, sold, evaluated, and managed. The ideal candidate will bring: 5+ years of experience within PBM, pharmacy benefits, healthcare consulting, benefits brokerage, or a closely related environment. A proven record of generating new business and closing complex healthcare opportunities. Deep relationships with employers, brokers, consultants, health plans, TPAs, and/or benefits advisors . Strong understanding of PBM economics, contracting, pricing, rebates, formulary strategy, specialty pharmacy, and pharmacy benefit trends. Executive presence and the ability to engage confidently with CEOs, CFOs, CHROs, benefits leaders, and senior consultants. A consultative selling approach rather than a transactional sales mentality. Entrepreneurial energy and comfort operating in a startup environment where the playbook is still being built. The ability to turn relationships and market insight into measurable revenue. Why This Opportunity Is Different This is an opportunity to join a privately owned PBM at an important stage of its growth—where an exceptional commercial leader can have a disproportionate impact. You won't be stepping into a mature organization with layers of bureaucracy, a predetermined sales playbook, or limited ability to influence strategy. You'll have the opportunity to help build the playbook, shape the market narrative, open doors, win business, and ultimately help define the company's commercial identity. For the right executive, this role offers the combination of entrepreneurship, autonomy, meaningful ownership of results, industry influence, and significant financial upside that is difficult to find inside a traditional PBM.
