About the role

You'll be the lead technologist on night shift, guiding a team of 5–7 MLS/MLTs and lab assistants. You'll still work the bench across core lab departments, and you'll also keep the shift running smoothly, including the morning draw. You'll work closely with lab leadership, physicians, and nursing staff.

Responsibilities

What you'll do

Perform and review testing in hematology, immunohematology, chemistry, and microbiology/serology

Oversee night-shift workflow, reassigning staff as needed to meet departmental goals and handle STAT priorities

Partner with the lab assistant shift supervisor on pre-analytical and AM draw issues. When no supervisor is on shift, you'll direct collections and work with processing so draws are completed on time

Review QC, troubleshoot instrument and QC failures, and document corrective actions

Act as the on-shift point of contact for instrument or LIS problems: escalate to the vendor or IT, then hand off to the supervisor the next day

Serve as the liaison between day and night shifts to keep processes standardized, make sure STAT and routine testing is completed accurately, and escalate when needed

Train and competency-assess new employees and students

Write and review procedures; support CAP/TJC inspection readiness

Serve as the lab's point of contact for physicians and nursing on result questions and specimen issues

Our instruments Roche cobas pro · Ortho Vision · Sysmex XN · Sysmex UN · Stago STA Compact Max

Qualifications

What you'll need

Florida Clinical Laboratory Technologist (TN) license in hematology, immunohematology, chemistry, and microbiology/serology

National certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Technologist through ASCP, AMT, AAB or an equivalent certifying agency, or eligible to obtain within 12 months of hire
