WHAT THEY NEED
FFA needs a hands-on forensic accounting professional who can own litigation-support work from early discovery through written deliverables. The person will analyze financial records and large data sets, build damages and valuation models, manage schedules and document review, draft report sections/expert reports, and work directly with attorneys and senior experts. The role also supports investigations, fraud matters and business valuation, but litigation is the clear center of gravity.
MOST BASIC TERMS
This person helps attorneys prove or defend the financial side of a lawsuit. They dig through records, calculate damages, organize the facts, build financial models and help write reports that may be used in depositions, arbitration or court.
TOP MUST-HAVES
5+ years in forensic accounting, litigation consulting, dispute advisory, financial investigations, valuation or closely related public accounting work.
Strong litigation-support experience; able to work hands-on with discovery, document review, schedules and report preparation.
Advanced Excel, financial modeling, financial statement analysis and experience working with large data sets.
Excellent business writing — must be able to draft clear, defensible report sections and communicate complex financial concepts.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration or related field.
Able to work independently in a highly virtual environment, manage deadlines and communicate confidently with attorneys/clients.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Economic damages analysis: lost profits/wages, business interruption, breach of contract, shareholder and IP disputes.
Prepare and write reports/rebuttals, schedules, exhibits, deposition/trial materials and financial narratives that withstand scrutiny.
Perform fraud and financial investigations, trace funds, identify irregularities and support investigative planning/interviews.
Business valuation and dispute advisory work, including income/market/asset approaches and valuation-related reporting.
Coordinate with attorneys early in cases on discovery, document requests/review, deadlines and case organization.
PREFERRED / STRONG PLUS
CPA, CFE, CFF, ABV, CVA, ASA, CFA or MAFF credential.
Commercial litigation, shareholder/business divorce, IP/royalty, construction, insurance, healthcare, white-collar, regulatory or bankruptcy matters.
Power BI, Tableau, Alteryx, SQL, IDEA, ACL Analytics, Power Query, e-discovery platforms or AI-assisted research/analytics tools.
TARGET CANDIDATE
Look for a manager-level forensic accountant or litigation consultant from a Big Four, national accounting/advisory firm, boutique forensic practice or expert-services environment. The best fit is someone who is still close to the work — not purely a reviewer — and can independently move a matter forward, write well, manage attorneys/client communication, and eventually take broader ownership. Strong “rock star” candidates should still be shown even if they fall outside the preferred geography or exact level.
IMPORTANT SEARCH CONTEXT
Geography is flexible. Start with Chicago, Dallas and Kansas City because FFA has offices there, but in-person meetings are rare (generally 1–2x/year).
Comp structure can be flexible: salary is available; some current team members operate on performance / production-based arrangements. Benefits are still being built out for employee classifications, so confirm the package before presenting specifics.
Official JD says “Hybrid Considered,” but the intake call clarified this is a remote / virtual role; local proximity is a preference, not a hard onsite requirement.
Initial search findings / market feedback should be provided to Shawn within the first week.
