Senior Aerospace Engineering Consultant – Space Vehicles & Propulsion

Location: Los Angeles, CA or Las Vegas, NV Area Preferred (Remote, but near either location)

Employment Type: Contract / Consulting Engagement

Schedule: Full-Time Preferred; Part-Time Considered

Hours: 40 hours per week

Pay: 75/hr.

Target Start Date: Immediate

Overview

KORE1, a nationwide provider of staffing and recruiting solutions, is seeking a highly experienced Senior Aerospace Engineering Consultant to serve as a subject matter expert supporting the research, development, and technical validation of a confidential aerospace project.

This position requires a seasoned aerospace engineer with deep practical experience across space vehicle architecture, propulsion systems, and structural engineering. The consultant will work with an existing team to evaluate technology concepts, validate engineering assumptions, assess potential development paths, and determine which technologies and components are technically viable for near-term implementation.

The ideal candidate has spent a significant portion of their career designing, developing, testing, integrating, or evaluating spacecraft, satellites, launch vehicles, propulsion systems, or related aerospace technologies. This opportunity may be particularly attractive to a highly experienced or retired aerospace engineer interested in remaining involved in innovative R&D work without necessarily committing to a traditional permanent position.

The project is currently in a digital research and development phase, allowing the work to be performed remotely. Candidates in the Los Angeles or Las Vegas areas are strongly preferred due to the possibility of future onsite involvement and expansion into a longer-term engagement.

Key Responsibilities

Serve as a senior aerospace engineering subject matter expert supporting a confidential research and development initiative.

Provide expert-level guidance on space vehicle architecture, propulsion, structural engineering, systems engineering, and integration.

Independently evaluate and validate existing technology concepts, engineering assumptions, mathematical models, and technical analyses.

Provide experienced engineering judgment beyond theoretical modeling and help determine whether proposed concepts are practical, scalable, and technically achievable.

Evaluate multiple potential development paths and provide recommendations regarding technical feasibility, risk, cost, complexity, and implementation.

Assess available propulsion systems and space-vehicle technologies to determine their suitability for the project.

Research and evaluate commercially available aerospace systems, components, vendors, and technologies.

Identify technologies and components that are available and deployable today versus emerging solutions that may not yet be sufficiently mature for operational use.

Evaluate potential propulsion architectures, including chemical, electric, or other advanced propulsion technologies as appropriate to the project.

Review overall vehicle concepts for potential engineering risks, structural concerns, integration challenges, bottlenecks, and opportunities for optimization.

Assess how propulsion, structural, and other major vehicle systems interact within the overall design.

Conduct technical and feasibility reviews of proposed engineering concepts.

Provide practical recommendations informed by previous aerospace development, testing, integration, and operational experience.

Mentor and provide technical guidance to less-experienced team members involved in the research and development effort.

Participate in technical discussions and design-review meetings with internal stakeholders.

Clearly communicate findings, risks, recommendations, and alternative approaches to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Provide written and/or verbal summaries outlining technical findings, recommendations, and actionable next steps.

Required Qualifications

15+ years of aerospace engineering experience with significant experience involving spacecraft, satellites, launch vehicles, propulsion systems, or closely related space technologies.

Deep, hands-on expertise with space propulsion systems, including design, development, testing, integration, analysis, or technical evaluation.

Strong understanding of space vehicle architecture and systems integration.

Demonstrated knowledge of structural engineering considerations associated with spacecraft, launch vehicles, or other aerospace systems.

Extensive practical engineering experience with the ability to evaluate whether theoretical concepts can be successfully implemented in real-world aerospace systems.

Experience conducting technical reviews, design reviews, feasibility assessments, or engineering validation.

Ability to assess competing technologies and make informed recommendations based on technical maturity, scalability, risk, and operational feasibility.

Familiarity with space-environment constraints, orbital considerations, aerospace testing, and applicable engineering standards.

Ability to independently evaluate complex technical information and provide clear, defensible engineering recommendations.

Strong communication skills with the ability to mentor and guide less-experienced engineers and technical team members.

Must be based in the United States and meet applicable U.S. Person requirements under ITAR.

Must be willing to execute required confidentiality and intellectual-property agreements before receiving confidential project information.
