About the job
At Walden Robotics, we envision a world where general-purpose robots dramatically improve the quality of life for all people—supporting us at home, at work, in factories, on farms, and beyond. To accomplish this, we are building a team of exceptional professionals who combine world-class technical skills with creative vision, grounded in humility and collaboration.
Position Summary:
We're looking for an experienced and operationally driven Facility Manager to own the day-to-day operations of Walden Robotics' headquarters — a 50,000 sq ft facility that serves as the heart of our engineering, fabrication, assembly, and robotics testing work. You'll manage a complex, mixed-use facility that includes office space, robot fabrication area, machine shop, and robotics test areas — and you'll do it with the operational rigor and technical fluency the environment demands. You'll work closely with our Head of Business Operations on large-scale projects and programs, and partner with our Office Manager to run the site. Over time you'll have the opportunity to build and lead a small facilities team as Walden scales.
Core Responsibilities:
Building Operations & Systems
Own day-to-day operations and preventive maintenance of all building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire suppression, and lighting across office, lab, assembly, and machine shop areas
Serve as primary point of contact for all facilities-related issues, including coordination with landlord as applicable; triage, prioritize, and resolve requests in a timely manner with minimal disruption to operations
Conduct routine inspections of the facility to identify maintenance needs, safety hazards, and code compliance gaps; maintain accurate records of all inspections, repairs, and certifications
Maintain inventory of facilities supplies, tools, and spare parts; manage procurement of consumables and equipment
Serve as on-call to respond to emergencies and maintain business continuity in cases of sustained power outages, critical water damage, or other facility operational issues
Vendor & Contractor Management
Identify, engage, and manage all vendor and contractor relationships across the full service stack — janitorial, pest control, landscaping, trash and recycling, and specialized trades (electrical, mechanical, etc.); own scope, scheduling, and quality of all vendor work
Scope and bid work for specialized contractors; review proposals, negotiate contracts, and hold vendors accountable to quality, timelines, and budget
Manage relationships with landlord and property managers; coordinate on shared responsibilities and ensure lease obligations are met
Stakeholder Partnership
Partner with the Office Manager on day-to-day operations, including shared oversight of the day porter, facilities ticketing, and vendor management and coordination
Partner with the robotics, hardware, and engineering teams to support equipment installation, power and utility requirements, and safe operation of test environments and fabrication areas
Coordinate with the Tech Org on IT infrastructure, server power requirements, and network utility needs across the facility
Compliance, Safety & EH&S
Partner with our EH&S lead to ensure EH&S program implementation and compliance, including hazardous and electronic waste management, and compliance with applicable local, state, and federal regulations
Lead emergency response procedures, including evacuation plans and protocols specific to high-voltage, machinery, and fabrication areas
Budget & Planning
Own the HQ facilities budget; track spend against plan, identify cost-saving opportunities, and report variances to the Head of Business Operations
Contribute to annual budget planning and capital planning processes, incorporating vendor contract cycles, planned maintenance, equipment lifecycle, and facility improvement needs
Support space planning and buildout projects as the company scales, coordinating contractor work with minimal disruption to ongoing operations
Access Control & Security
Administer the building access control system, including onboarding and offboarding of users and any ongoing changes; report access-related matters to the Head of Business Operations
Maintain awareness of physical security requirements for a mixed-use facility with high-value equipment, fabrication areas, and sensitive R&D work
Required Qualifications:
4–6 years of facilities management experience, with demonstrated people management or team leadership responsibility
Proven ability to run a complex, mixed-use building operation end-to-end — vendor stack, budget, compliance, and day-to-day operations
Working knowledge of commercial building systems: HVAC, electrical (including three-phase), plumbing, fire/life safety; ability to triage issues accurately and direct the right resource to resolution
Strong safety orientation; familiarity with OSHA standards and experience maintaining compliance in environments with heavy equipment, machinery, or light industrial operations
Familiarity with access control systems and user administration, including onboarding, offboarding, and routine changes
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in a startup, R&D, or advanced manufacturing environment where the facility is central to the product development process
Familiarity with machine shop equipment, fabrication environments, compressed air systems, or high-voltage power requirements for robotics or industrial equipment
Experience supporting or leading facilities capital projects — tenant improvements, equipment installations, infrastructure upgrades — with ability to read construction drawings including MEP
Experience hiring, onboarding, or managing facilities or technical staff, or strong interest in building that capability as the team grows
Certified Facility Manager (CFM), IFMA, BOMA, or equivalent industry certification a plus
