About the job
About Furl
Furl is a small software startup building infrastructure the way we think it should be built: declarative, reproducible, and based on free and open source software. We run on AWS today, but we design for portability so we're never locked into a single cloud.
The role
You'll help own our cloud infrastructure end to end: provisioning it with OpenTofu, running workloads on Kubernetes, and shipping changes through GitOps with FluxCD. On a team this size, your work has direct impact, and you'll have a real say in the architecture as we move toward cloud-agnostic, FOSS-first infrastructure.
What you'll do
Design, build, and maintain infrastructure as code with OpenTofu
Operate and scale our Kubernetes clusters, including upgrades, autoscaling, and reliability work
Manage application and cluster delivery through GitOps with FluxCD
Improve CI/CD pipelines so engineers can ship quickly and safely
Strengthen observability, alerting, and on-call practices
Own security fundamentals: IAM, secrets management, and least-privilege access
Evaluate and adopt open source alternatives to proprietary or cloud-specific services
Write clear documentation and share knowledge with the rest of the team
Our stack Area Tools Cloud AWS (today), designed to stay portable Orchestration Kubernetes Infrastructure as code OpenTofu (Terraform-compatible) GitOps / delivery FluxCD Philosophy Free and open source software wherever practical
What we're looking for
3+ years of hands-on DevOps, platform, or infrastructure engineering experience
Production experience running Kubernetes
Solid infrastructure-as-code skills with OpenTofu or Terraform
Working knowledge of AWS core services (networking, IAM, compute, storage)
Familiarity with GitOps workflows (FluxCD, Argo CD, or similar)
Strong Linux fundamentals and comfort on the command line
Scripting ability in Bash, Python, or Go
A pragmatic, ownership-driven mindset suited to a small team
Nice to have
Experience with other clouds or bare metal, and with multi-cloud or cloud-agnostic design
Hands-on time with self-hosted open source tooling (Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, and similar)
Kubernetes autoscaling experience (Karpenter, KEDA)
Running stateful workloads such as PostgreSQL on Kubernetes
Contributions to open source projects
