Chief Financial Officer

Executive Search Associates is partnering with a healthcare organization to identify an experienced Chief Financial Officer to provide strategic and operational financial leadership for a large, complex acute-care hospital in Illinois. This on-site executive role is well suited for a seasoned hospital finance leader who understands how financial strategy, reimbursement, revenue cycle, and operational performance come together to strengthen an organization.

Description

The Chief Financial Officer will serve as a key member of the executive leadership team, providing overall direction and oversight of the hospital’s financial operations.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the CFO will lead financial planning, budgeting and forecasting, financial reporting, reimbursement, revenue cycle, cash management, and capital finance while partnering closely with operational and clinical leadership.

This executive will play an important role in strengthening financial performance, identifying areas for improvement, and supporting the organization’s broader operational and strategic priorities.

Responsibilities

Provide executive leadership and oversight for hospital financial operations.

Lead budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, and performance reporting.

Maintain accurate financial records and reporting in accordance with GAAP and organizational requirements.

Monitor financial and operational performance and identify opportunities to improve results.

Provide financial insight and recommendations to the CEO and executive leadership team.

Oversee reimbursement and revenue cycle performance and support strategies that strengthen financial outcomes.

Manage cash flow, capital planning, and other key financial functions.

Partner with clinical and operational leaders to align financial strategy with organizational priorities.

Evaluate financial implications of operational decisions, investments, and growth initiatives.

Maintain appropriate financial controls and ensure compliance with applicable policies, regulations, and reporting requirements.

Support accountability and continuous improvement across financial and operational functions.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field.

Five to seven years of hospital accounting or finance experience required.

Progressive leadership experience within hospital finance, with management experience strongly preferred.

Strong knowledge of healthcare accounting practices and principles.

Experience with hospital budgeting, cash management, capital finance, reimbursement, and financial performance.

Understanding of healthcare insurance, regulatory requirements, reimbursement, and information systems.

Experience within a large or comparably complex acute-care hospital environment strongly preferred.

For-profit hospital finance experience strongly preferred.

Demonstrated ability to partner with executive, clinical, and operational leadership.

Strong analytical, financial, communication, and decision-making skills.

CPA preferred.

Participation in ACHE or another relevant professional organization preferred.
