About the job
NOTE: This position is open only to City of New York employees serving in the permanent civil service title of Certified IT Administrator (LAN/WAN). The Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) is the largest Fire Department in the United States and universally is recognized as the world's busiest and most highly skilled emergency response agency. The Department's main goal is to provide fire protection, emergency medical care, and other critical public safety services to residents and visitors in the five boroughs. FDNY members are sworn to serve and protect life and property and the Department works to continually educate the public in fire, life safety and disaster preparedness, along with enforcing public safety codes. Since its inception in 1865, FDNY has helped lead efforts to make New York the safest big city in the nation. This accomplishment requires a steadfast and daily commitment to maintaining the Department's core values. The Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) seeks a full-time Deputy Chief Information Security Officer (Deputy CISO) to serve within the Bureau of Enterprise Technology (BET). Reporting to the CISO, the Deputy CISO will assist in leading FDNY's cybersecurity program and protecting the Department's systems, networks, infrastructure, applications, and data. The successful candidate will support the development and implementation of cybersecurity strategies, policies, standards, and controls; identify and mitigate information security risks; and help ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of critical technology resources. Responsibilities include overseeing security operations, vulnerability management, access management, endpoint and cloud security, security monitoring, and incident response. The Deputy CISO will coordinate the investigation, containment, remediation, and recovery of cybersecurity incidents and support disaster recovery, business continuity, and technology resiliency efforts. The position will provide security oversight for networks, systems, cloud environments, applications, and technology projects and ensure compliance with applicable City policies, cybersecurity requirements, and industry standards. The Deputy CISO will also manage and provide direction to cybersecurity staff, consultants, contractors, and vendors. The Deputy CISO will work closely with the CISO, CIO, technology teams, agency leadership, City partners, and external stakeholders to strengthen FDNY's cybersecurity posture, promote security awareness, and support the Department's critical public-safety mission. The Deputy CISO may represent and act on behalf of the CISO as required.
