Director of Laboratory

Executive Search Associates is partnering with a healthcare organization to identify an experienced Laboratory Director for an acute-care hospital in Illinois. This leader will oversee clinical laboratory operations, including quality, compliance, financial performance, technical operations, and personnel management.

Description

The Laboratory Director will provide overall leadership for clinical laboratory services, ensuring effective operations and compliance with hospital standards and applicable regulatory requirements. This leader will also support standardization, quality improvement, and achievement of key financial, quality, and service performance measures.

Responsibilities

Provide leadership and oversight of clinical laboratory operations.

Manage administrative, financial, technical, quality, compliance, and personnel activities.

Ensure compliance with CLIA, CAP, TJC, ACHC, and other applicable regulatory standards.

Oversee laboratory policies, procedures, equipment, supplies, information systems, and quality assurance.

Support standardization and continuous improvement across laboratory operations.

Monitor financial, quality, and service performance.

Provide operational guidance to laboratory management and staff.

Perform routine laboratory testing when needed to support department operations.

Requirements

Bachelor of Science degree in a scientific field meeting CLIA requirements.

Minimum of five years of supervisory clinical laboratory experience.

Clinical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Technologist, Medical Laboratory Scientist, ASCP, or equivalent certification/licensure preferred.

Understanding of laboratory financial operations, accounting, and statistics.

Strong knowledge of quality control and laboratory compliance.

Master’s degree preferred.

Lean Six Sigma certification preferred.
