Round Rock, TX (Hybrid/Remote – In-Person as Needed) Employment Type: Full-Time, Direct Hire Travel: Approximately 0–10%

Overview

KORE1, a nationwide provider of staffing and recruiting solutions, is seeking a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to lead the design, automation, security, and lifecycle management of infrastructure supporting a next-generation data analytics and critical infrastructure defense platform.

This is a hands-on, senior-level engineering opportunity focused on building and maintaining the infrastructure used for software development, quality assurance, release validation, continuous integration/deployment, and product demonstrations.

The ideal candidate is an experienced infrastructure engineer who can independently design and build environments from the ground up, bringing strong expertise in Kubernetes, infrastructure as code, CI/CD, GitOps, observability, and platform infrastructure.

The engineering organization is transitioning from prototype and proof-of-concept components toward a more mature, repeatable platform. This individual will play a key role in defining infrastructure architecture, establishing automation practices, and creating reliable environments that enable development teams to build, test, and release software efficiently.

A critical aspect of this role is designing self-contained, portable infrastructure solutions that can operate across cloud, on-premises, and disconnected or air-gapped environments without depending exclusively on cloud-provider-specific managed services.

This position is focused on internal engineering infrastructure rather than customer production deployments. The engineer will provide deployment artifacts, reference architectures, documentation, and technical handoff materials, but will not be responsible for routine customer deployments, customer-facing support, or ongoing customer production operations.

This is a senior individual-contributor role with no direct reports, requiring strong technical judgment, independent problem-solving, and close collaboration with backend and platform engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities

Design, build, and maintain development, QA, release-candidate, and demonstration infrastructure supporting engineering, testing, release validation, and product demonstrations.

Develop and maintain reusable infrastructure-as-code solutions using Terraform, Pulumi, or comparable declarative provisioning tools, including automated environment provisioning, configuration, and teardown.

Architect and manage Kubernetes-based infrastructure, including container orchestration, networking, storage, workload configuration, identity, and deployment patterns.

Implement and maintain secure CI/CD pipelines and GitOps workflows, using tools such as Argo CD or comparable platforms to automate deployments, configuration changes, and environment promotion.

Establish infrastructure monitoring and observability capabilities, including logs, metrics, traces, dashboards, alerts, health checks, and troubleshooting procedures.

Build and support non-production data infrastructure, including object storage, relational databases, data-lake components, distributed processing services, and other dependencies needed by development teams.

Develop secure and repeatable demonstration environments with controlled access, representative datasets, environment reset capabilities, and reliable deployment procedures.

Integrate infrastructure security and DevSecOps practices, including vulnerability scanning, secrets management, certificate management, access controls, artifact validation, and software supply-chain security.

Support portable and disconnected deployments by developing reference architectures, offline artifact packages, registry mirroring, installation procedures, and upgrade/rollback workflows.

Collaborate closely with backend, frontend, platform, and security engineers to define infrastructure requirements, resolve technical challenges, maintain documentation, and improve development and release processes.

Required Qualifications

7+ years of professional experience in infrastructure engineering, platform engineering, DevOps, DevSecOps, site reliability engineering, cloud engineering, or a closely related discipline.

Demonstrated experience independently designing, building, and maintaining complex infrastructure environments, preferably in greenfield or early-stage platform environments.

Strong hands-on Kubernetes experience, including cluster architecture, container orchestration, networking, storage, workload management, and troubleshooting.

Experience with declarative infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or Pulumi, including reusable modules, state management, automated provisioning, and controlled infrastructure changes.

Experience implementing and managing CI/CD pipelines and GitOps-based deployment workflows.

Strong understanding of Linux systems, container technologies, networking, identity management, storage, and virtualized or cloud infrastructure.

Experience establishing infrastructure observability through logging, monitoring, metrics, tracing, alerting, and troubleshooting.

Experience supporting non-production infrastructure for development, integration testing, QA, release validation, or product demonstrations.

Understanding of infrastructure security, including vulnerability management, secrets and certificate management, access controls, network segmentation, and secure deployment practices.

Ability to design portable, self-contained infrastructure solutions that are not dependent exclusively on proprietary cloud-provider services.

Experience supporting shared infrastructure dependencies such as databases, object storage, messaging systems, distributed workers, or data-processing platforms.

Ability to translate engineering requirements into infrastructure architecture, technical specifications, implementation plans, and maintainable documentation.

Strong independent problem-solving skills, technical judgment, and the ability to collaborate effectively with backend software engineers and other technical teams.

Working knowledge of scripting and automation, with the ability to develop or maintain scripts as needed for infrastructure provisioning and operational workflows.

Minimum education requirement: High School Diploma.

U.S. Citizenship required, with eligibility to obtain a U.S. security clearance.

Must reside within approximately 40 miles of Round Rock, TX, with the ability to attend in-person meetings and collaborate onsite as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced Kubernetes experience, including Custom Resource Definitions (CRDs), Kubernetes Operators, and GitOps-based orchestration.

Hands-on experience with Argo CD or similar GitOps tools.

Experience using Terraform or Pulumi in complex multi-environment infrastructure implementations.

Familiarity with Ansible or similar configuration management and automation tools.

Experience supporting infrastructure across cloud, on-premises, bare-metal, and air-gapped environments.

Experience building and supporting data-intensive platforms involving S3-compatible object storage, relational databases, distributed processing, data lakes, telemetry pipelines, or machine-learning infrastructure.

Experience developing offline installation packages, container registries, dependency mirrors, and upgrade workflows for disconnected environments.

Experience establishing infrastructure security and compliance practices for U.S. Government or defense environments, including DISA STIGs or comparable security frameworks.

Experience creating stable, repeatable demonstration environments for technical evaluations, customer presentations, or partner integrations.

Familiarity with software release management, artifact signing, software bills of materials (SBOMs), and secure software supply-chain practices.

Infrastructure Ownership & Work Environment

The Senior Infrastructure Engineer will own the design, reliability, security, and operational readiness of internal development, QA, release-candidate, and demonstration environments.

The position does not include routine customer production deployment, customer-facing technical support, or ongoing customer production on-call responsibilities.

The engineer will work closely with backend and platform development teams to establish infrastructure capabilities that support efficient software development, testing, and release processes.

This position offers a hybrid/remote work arrangement for candidates located within commuting distance of Round Rock, Texas. General expectations are about 2x/week onsite.

Estimated Travel: 0–10%.

Occasional work outside normal business hours may be required to support release-candidate validation or scheduled demonstrations. Routine customer production on-call responsibilities are not part of the current role.
