Structural Engineer – Remote Contract (2–4 Years of Experience)
Location: Remote – United States
Employment Type: Contract / Part-Time
Contract Duration: Approximately 2–3 Months
Schedule: Flexible, Approximately 16–32 Hours per Week
Compensation: Based on Experience and Qualifications
Overview
KORE1, a nationwide provider of staffing and recruiting solutions, is seeking a Structural Engineer for a flexible, part-time contract opportunity supporting an established structural engineering consulting firm.
This position will provide engineering support across multiple active building projects, performing structural calculations, analysis, and assigned design tasks under the direction of experienced structural engineers.
The ideal candidate has approximately 1–4 years of professional structural engineering experience, a strong foundation in structural design principles, and the ability to independently complete clearly defined engineering assignments.
Projects range from smaller specialized assignments to complex building structures across healthcare, higher education, commercial, and other sectors. The firm works with a variety of structural materials and building systems, including steel, concrete, wood, and masonry.
Unlike a traditional full-time engineering position, this role focuses on discrete engineering tasks and supplemental project support, rather than overall project management or ownership of design requirements. Engineering teams will provide the necessary project parameters, design criteria, and direction.
This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career structural engineer seeking flexible remote work, supplemental project experience, or a short-term consulting engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Perform structural analysis and engineering calculations using structural design software and hand calculations.
Complete assigned structural design tasks, including gravity load calculations, beam analysis, and member design.
Develop structural calculations, design documentation, and supporting technical information based on established project requirements.
Apply relevant building codes and structural engineering standards to assigned calculations and design activities.
Support structural engineering teams on projects involving steel, concrete, wood, masonry, and other building materials.
Review provided design parameters, engineering sketches, and project documentation to complete assigned work accurately.
Communicate technical questions, assumptions, and calculation results to supervising engineers.
Coordinate remotely with project engineers to complete assigned tasks within established schedules.
Maintain organized engineering calculations and documentation for internal review and quality assurance.
Provide supplemental engineering support across multiple projects as assignments become available.
Required Qualifications
Approximately 1–4 years of professional structural engineering experience, preferably involving building structures.
Bachelor's degree in Architectural Engineering with a structural emphasis, or a Master's degree (MS/M.Eng) in Civil or Structural Engineering.
Strong understanding of structural engineering fundamentals, including gravity loads, load paths, member design, and structural analysis.
Working knowledge of the International Building Code (IBC) and applicable structural design standards, including ASCE, AISC, ACI, and NDS.
Experience performing structural engineering calculations using hand calculations and/or structural analysis software.
Ability to independently complete clearly defined engineering assignments using provided design criteria and project parameters.
Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and sound engineering judgment.
Clear written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering teams in a fully remote environment.
Self-motivated, organized, and comfortable managing variable workloads and deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam or currently pursuing Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
Experience designing structural components involving steel, concrete, wood, or masonry.
Familiarity with structural analysis and design software commonly used in building engineering.
Experience using Revit and Bluebeam Revu.
Experience supporting healthcare, higher education, commercial, or seismic rehabilitation projects.
Previous experience completing structural calculations or design assignments with limited supervision.
Familiarity with engineering quality control and documentation practices.
