About the job

⚡ AI Product Engineer – Commercial Insurance

🌍 San Francisco, CA, 5 days in-office

💲 $140,000–$280,000 + performance bonus + equity

The Company

Storm2’s client is a fast-growing commercial insurance technology company using AI to rethink how businesses buy and manage coverage. They’re adding around 1,000 customers a month and have grown 100x over the past year, with a clear goal: move an industry that’s still overwhelmingly human-led towards AI-led distribution and operations.

The Role

A lot of AI engineering roles are still about prototypes. This one isn’t.

You’ll sit directly with sales, service and underwriting teams, find problems inside the operation, then build the product that solves them. That could mean an agent, an internal workflow, a customer-facing feature or the evaluation infrastructure underneath it. You’ll own the frontend, backend and AI layer, then measure whether what you built actually moved the business.

The pace matters. They want engineers who are comfortable prototyping on Monday, shipping on Tuesday and looking at the numbers on Wednesday. You’ll work directly with the founders, without a long approval chain, and you’ll be expected to use tools like Cursor and Claude Code to compress the development cycle wherever they genuinely make you faster.

What you’ll be working on:

Building AI-powered product features from frontend through backend, agents and evals

Working alongside sales, service and underwriting to identify high-leverage problems before they become formal product requirements

Developing agentic workflows and automation that make operators faster while improving the customer experience

Creating feedback loops where decisions and outcomes can be traced, evaluated and used to improve future performance

Testing new models and capabilities as they emerge, then working out which are useful enough to put into production

Owning business metrics after launch, whether that’s conversion, efficiency, customer experience or another measurable outcome

Building the evaluation and monitoring needed to understand whether AI systems are genuinely working in production

What you’ll bring:

Experience shipping production software, with level determined by depth rather than a fixed number of years

Strong Python, TypeScript or comparable full-stack engineering experience

Production experience with LLM applications, agent pipelines, AI-powered workflows or similar systems

The ability and willingness to move between frontend, backend and applied AI rather than owning one narrow layer

Evidence you’ve shipped meaningful features quickly and iterated from real user feedback

Confidence explaining technical work and its business impact to non-technical teams

Hands-on experience using AI coding tools such as Cursor, Claude Code or Windsurf

Based in San Francisco or genuinely willing to relocate

Useful, but not essential:

Voice AI or real-time systems experience

RAG, agent frameworks or LLM evaluation systems

Operations tooling, sales technology or workflow automation experience

Previous experience in a high-growth startup

Worth knowing before you apply

This is an in-office role, Monday to Friday, with an early start. If you’re looking for remote flexibility or a heavily structured engineering environment, this probably isn’t the right one.

If you want direct ownership, founder access and the chance to ship AI into systems that are already serving real customers and generating revenue, it’s a very different proposition.
