Question 1

Is NextChapter really free for me?

Accepted Answer

Yes — completely, and always. Building your profile, taking the assessment, and getting your Market Reality Assessment and action plan cost you nothing. We never charge candidates a cent.

Question 2

Then what's the catch?

Accepted Answer

No catch. NextChapter is free for Members. You're the reason the platform exists, not the product being sold, and we don't sell your attention or your data.

Question 3

Who is NextChapter for?

Accepted Answer

Anyone getting back into work or moving into a new chapter — career changers, people returning after a layoff or caregiving, relocators, recent graduates, and anyone whose resume doesn't tell the whole story. If you've ever felt filtered out before a human ever saw you, this is built for you.

Question 4

What is the Market Reality Assessment?

Accepted Answer

One letter grade, A through F — not a number. It's built from six categories: Target Fit (real hiring demand plus how well-matched and focused your target is) and five hiring-manager categories — Leadership & Management, Skills & Execution, Communication & Collaboration, Adaptability & Change Readiness, and Ownership & Reliability. After you finish the assessment you get an honest first read; from there, your weekly effort — networking, learning, and working your search — nudges the grade up or down each week, without ever resetting your baseline. It's meant to be useful to you first, not just a number for employers.

Question 5

How is the grade calculated?

Accepted Answer

Target Fit combines real labor-market demand with how well your background and target line up. The five competency categories draw mostly from your How I Work Best assessment, references, and resume — built to be harder to game than just picking the "best-sounding" answer. Each week, your baseline (which only moves when something real changes — a reference lands, an interview happens) is nudged by how much real effort you put in that week across Networking, Learning, and Working.

Question 6

How long does the assessment take?

Accepted Answer

About 8–10 minutes, in five short steps: Resume, Your Why, Your Situation, Experience, and Goals. It’s designed to feel like reflection, not a test — most people find the "Your Why" part genuinely clarifying. (There's also an optional How I Work Best assessment you can take anytime from your dashboard — it's not required to get your Grade.)

Question 7

Can I save my progress and finish later?

Accepted Answer

Yes — your progress saves automatically as you go, so you can step away and pick up exactly where you left off, on any device.

Question 8

Do I have to upload a resume?

Accepted Answer

Yes, for now — it's how we auto-fill most of your profile (name, contact info, experience) so you're not retyping everything by hand.

Question 9

What if I have an employment gap or a non-traditional background?

Accepted Answer

That's exactly who this is built for. Traditional systems penalize gaps and anything that doesn't fit a template — NextChapter is designed to surface how you work and what you bring, so a gap is context, not a red flag.

Question 10

Can I retake the assessment or improve my Grade?

Accepted Answer

You don’t retake the quiz itself — instead, your Market Reality Assessment updates automatically as you take real steps: adding references and work samples, confirming your details, logging networking activity, landing an interview. The more of your action plan you complete, the more it reflects it. Your Market Reality Assessment can shift too, as you round out your profile with more experience, references, and work samples.

Question 11

What data do you collect, and what do you do with it?

Accepted Answer

You share your work history, goals, and assessment responses to build your profile and Grade. We use Claude (Anthropic's AI) to help analyze your resume and generate feedback, and we store your data securely to power your results and, based on your privacy setting, show your profile to employers on the platform.

Question 12

Do you sell my data or share it with third parties?

Accepted Answer

No — we don't sell your personal data or share it with advertisers or data brokers. Your resume is processed by Claude (Anthropic) solely to generate your analysis and feedback. The only “sharing” that happens is showing your profile to employers on NextChapter, and only based on the privacy setting you choose.

Question 13

Who can see my profile and my Grade?

Accepted Answer

Nobody, by default. New profiles start fully Locked — invisible everywhere — while you build them out. Once you’re ready, you choose your visibility: Public (full name and history), Semi-Public (first name + last initial), Private (fully anonymized), or Stealth (visible only to companies you’ve pre-approved). You’re always in control.

Question 14

Will my current employer find me on here?

Accepted Answer

Not unless you want them to. Use Stealth mode to stay invisible to everyone except companies you've explicitly pre-approved, or stay Locked while you explore.

Question 15

How do I delete my account and my data?

Accepted Answer

Go to Dashboard → Privacy and click "Deactivate my account" in the Danger Zone to make it unusable right away. For a real, permanent deletion of your data, email support@launchyournextchapter.com.

Question 16

What happens once I finish?

Accepted Answer

You get your Market Reality Assessment and a personalized action plan immediately — the grade keeps moving as you take real action each week. From there, your profile becomes visible to employers according to the privacy setting you've chosen — you don't have to fire off dozens of applications into the void.

Question 17

What does an A unlock?

Accepted Answer

An A means we're ready to unabashedly support and market you as an excellent candidate — not just a badge for effort. It unlocks recruiter visibility, our job board, and the executive recruiter database. We can't promise it gets you a job — nobody can — but doing the real work behind it (a well-matched target, real weekly effort) genuinely improves your odds either way.

Question 18

How does matching with employers work?

Accepted Answer

Employers see profiles based on how you work best, experience, and verification — not just resume keywords. What won't change is that you control your visibility the whole time.

Question 19

Do I have to be actively job-hunting to use it?

Accepted Answer

No. Even if you’re just testing the waters, your grades and action plan are worth having — and you control how visible you are to employers the whole time.

Question 20

Is it still free if I get hired through NextChapter?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Joining as a NextChapter Member is free, always.

Question 21

I have a question that isn't answered here. How do I reach you?

Accepted Answer

Email support@launchyournextchapter.com — a real person will get back to you.
