Job Description: L3Harris is seeking a Technical Writer who is excited to transform complex technical information into clear, meaningful documentation that supports advanced technologies used in national security missions. In this role, you’ll work closely with engineers, product teams, and subject matter experts to build high quality manuals, guides, and instructional content that users can rely on. This position is designed for an experienced Technical Writer who can work under general supervision, contribute to projects with real operational impact, and help advance documentation quality through thoughtful improvements and collaboration.

Essential Functions: • Collaborate with cross functional teams to gather information and translate moderately complex technical concepts into clear, user focused documentation. • Develop and maintain user guides and reference guides, in unstructured FrameMaker, Visio, and Microsoft Office environments. • Interpret technical drawings and convert them into accurate, easy to follow procedural steps. • Ask targeted questions and partner with engineers and SMEs to validate content accuracy. • Identify documentation gaps and close them through research, interviews, and limited hands on exploration when appropriate. • Develop a practical understanding of the products and technologies you document and apply that knowledge to improve clarity, consistency, and usability. • Review documents for accuracy, completeness, consistency, and editorial quality. • Support documentation standards and contribute to process improvements that enhance efficiency and user experience. • Manage tasks and maintain visibility using collaboration tools such as Jira and Confluence. • Keep documentation aligned with system updates and enhancements as they occur. • Use Excel for documentation tracking, analysis, reporting, and workflow support. Advanced features are helpful but not required. • Ability to obtain and maintain active clearance.

Qualifications: • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.

Preferred Additional Skills: • Active Top Secret clearance preferred. • Strong written and verbal communication skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to manage tasks independently while working under general supervision. • Ability to work collaboratively, handle multiple priorities, and adapt to changing project needs. • Familiarity with documentation tools such as FrameMaker, Adobe Acrobat, and Visio. • Experience with Atlassian tools (Jira, PLM). • Ability to create supporting visuals such as illustrations, diagrams, and flowcharts. • Understanding of the Systems Development Lifecycle (SDLC). • Experience implementing AI enhanced documentation practices—such as content generation support, template automation, metadata enrichment, or workflow optimization—while adhering to responsible AI principles that ensure accuracy, transparency, security, and proper human oversight.
