About the job

The Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai is seeking an accomplished physician-scientist to serve as Director of Benign Hematology Clinical Research.

This is a distinctive leadership opportunity for an individual with a strong record in benign hematology clinical care and research to build and direct a comprehensive clinical research program addressing non-malignant blood disorders with a focus on coagulation, bleeding and thrombosis, leveraging Mount Sinai’s excellence in clinical care as an HHS-funded Hemophilia Treatment Center, and complementing existing NIH-funded clinical and translational research programs in sickle cell disease, iron disorders, myeloproliferative disorders, and graft-vs-host disease.

About the Role

The Director will provide strategic and operational leadership for clinical research in benign hematology, in close partnership with divisional and departmental leadership. This individual will:

Design, launch, and oversee a robust clinical trials portfolio spanning disorders such as bleeding and clotting disorders, bone marrow failure syndromes, and other non-malignant hematologic conditions (with the exception of other funded programs such as sickle cell disease)

Recruit, mentor, and develop junior faculty, fellows, and research staff engaged in benign hematology research

Secure and manage extramural funding, including NIH, foundation, and industry-sponsored support

Collaborate with basic and translational scientists to advance mechanistic understanding and novel therapeutics for benign blood disorders

Partner with the Division's malignant hematology, oncology, and transplant programs, as well as pediatric hematology, to build cohesive, cross-cutting research initiatives

Maintain an active clinical practice caring for patients with benign hematologic disease

Contribute to the education and training of medical students, residents, and fellows

Represent Mount Sinai in national and international benign hematology research consortia and professional societies

We are seeking candidates with:

MD or MD/PhD with current board certification/eligibility in Hematology

A distinguished record of clinical and translational research in benign hematology

Demonstrated leadership experience directing or co-directing a clinical research program, clinical trials unit, or comparable initiative

A strong publication record and national or international reputation in the field of non-malignant hematologic disorders

Experience building multidisciplinary collaborations and mentoring early-career investigators

Eligibility for a faculty appointment at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai at a rank commensurate with experience

A sustained record of extramural funding and/or leadership in sponsored multicenter trials is desirable
