ADVANCE YOUR CAREER. ADVANCE THE WORLD.

At AMD, we believe technology has the power to solve the world’s most important challenges. From advancing healthcare and scientific discovery to powering AI and the technologies people rely on every day, innovation at AMD is shaping the future.

Whether you’re designing next-gen processors, enabling AI breakthroughs, or bringing leading edge products to market, every role at AMD contributes to something bigger — technology that moves the world forward. Join us and, together, we’ll advance your career.

THE ROLE:

AMD is seeking an accomplished Principal Software Architect, AI-Enabled Silicon Development to define and drive the architecture of complex, production-grade software systems that support silicon development and accelerate AI deployment. This role is ideal for a hands-on technical leader with strong industrial experience taking software products from concept through deployment, scaling, adoption, and sustained customer support.

THE PERSON:

The ideal candidate should be passionate about software architecture and possess leadership skills to drive sophisticated issues to resolution. The ideal candidate will combine rigorous software architecture skills with practical knowledge of modern AI technologies. They will identify opportunities to apply AI to engineering workflows, improve productivity and efficiency, reduce development cycle time, and strengthen time-to-market while ensuring solutions are secure, reliable, maintainable, measurable, and easy to adopt. They will be able to communicate effectively and work optimally with different teams across AMD.

Proven ability to work directly with users or customers, diagnose complex issues, convert feedback into product improvements, and build trust through responsive technical support

Ability to communicate architecture, trade-offs, risks, and recommendations clearly to engineering teams, senior leaders, and non-specialist stakeholders

Track record of leading technically across organizational boundaries and delivering results in ambiguous, fast-moving environments

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE:

A coherent, scalable architecture that enables multiple teams to deliver faster with less duplication and lower operational risk

AI-enabled capabilities that move beyond prototypes and generate measurable improvements in engineering productivity, efficiency, quality, and time-to-market

Strong adoption and customer confidence supported by reliable products, intuitive experience, clear documentation, and effective support

A durable engineering culture built on sound technical judgment, disciplined execution, collaboration, and continuous learning

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Define the end-to-end architecture, technical strategy, and evolution roadmap for complex software platforms and products used in silicon design, verification, validation, and AI-enabled engineering workflows

Translate business, engineering, and customer needs into scalable system designs, clear interfaces, reusable services, and actionable implementation plans

Provide technical leadership across the complete product lifecycle, including requirements, design, implementation, integration, validation, deployment, observability, support, and continuous improvement

Evaluate and apply modern AI technologies—including generative AI, large language models, intelligent agents, retrieval-augmented systems, and machine-learning platforms—to deliver measurable improvements in productivity, efficiency, quality, and time-to-market

Establish architectural standards and engineering practices for performance, reliability, security, maintainability, extensibility, and operational readiness

Partner closely with silicon engineering, software development, infrastructure, data, security, product management, and customer-facing teams to deliver integrated solutions

Champion exceptional user and customer experiences through intuitive workflows, high-quality documentation, responsive support models, structured feedback mechanisms, and data-driven product improvements

Guide technical trade-offs, architecture reviews, design reviews, prototyping, and risk management across multiple teams and complex dependencies

Mentor engineers and technical leads, raise software engineering standards, and influence stakeholders without relying on direct authority

Assess emerging technologies and external solutions, distinguishing practical value from experimentation and creating disciplined paths from proof of concept to production

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

Extensive industry experience architecting, building, deploying, and supporting complex software systems or commercial-grade products

Experience with semiconductors, electronic design automation, hardware/software co-design, silicon design, verification, validation, or adjacent engineering domains

Experience developing AI-enabled developer tools, engineering automation, knowledge systems, or enterprise AI platforms

Demonstrated success designing scalable, reliable, secure, and maintainable distributed systems, platforms, services, or developer tools

Strong software engineering foundation, including architecture patterns, APIs, data models, integration strategies, testing, CI/CD, observability, and production operations

Practical experience applying modern AI technologies to real-world products or engineering workflows, with an understanding of model integration, evaluation, data quality, guardrails, and operational considerations

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

A bachelor’s or advanced degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience, is preferred.

This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
