About the job

Overview

This position is hybrid in Peachtree Corners, Georgia and sits within our IT Infrastructure division, which handles the combined set of software, hardware, networks, and facilities used to develop, test, deliver, monitor, control, or support IT Services.

The Opportunity

The Sr. Database Administrator is the principal technical authority for ConstructConnect’s database platforms, a hybrid on-premises and cloud environment running 24/7 across SQL Server 2012–2025, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Azure SQL, and AWS RDS. The role owns the platform beneath the databases, not just the databases themselves: architecting, building, and operating Windows Server Failover Clusters (WSFCs), SQL Server Failover Clustered Instances (FCIs), Availability Groups (AGs) and Distributed AGs, log shipping, and transactional replication. The Sr. DBA owns disaster recovery planning and RTO/RPO accountability, database security and SOX compliance, performance monitoring, and capacity planning, and sets the standard for how engineering teams use the database: reviewing schemas, developing and refactoring stored procedures, and guiding developers on query optimization and data access patterns. This is a technical lead role without direct reports.

Responsibilities

What You’ll Be Doing

Administer and maintain SQL Server (2012–2025), PostgreSQL, MySQL, Azure SQL, and AWS RDS environments in a 24/7 production setting

Architect, build, and operate WSFCs and FCIs, including shared storage, quorum, networking, patching, and failover testing

Design, implement, and troubleshoot AGs across on-premises and cloud environments, including listeners, synchronization health, and planned and unplanned failover

Configure and maintain log shipping and transactional replication, including monitoring latency, resolving replication errors, and managing publisher, distributor, and subscriber components

Design and provision relational database environments, including instance configuration, storage layout, high availability and clustering architecture, backup strategy, and security design

Own disaster recovery and backup strategies, including cross-site recovery using Distributed AGs and log shipping, with responsibility for design, testing, and documentation

Lead database security and compliance efforts, including SOX controls, internal audit requirements, and access management

Monitor and optimize database performance using SolarWinds and Idera; identify and resolve bottlenecks proactively

Plan capacity across all database platforms, forecasting storage, compute, and licensing needs

Automate routine administration such as patching, health checks, deployments, and provisioning using PowerShell, dbatools, and infrastructure-as-code tooling

Design and review database schemas, stored procedures, functions, and triggers to meet business requirements

Partner with development teams on query optimization, indexing strategies, data access patterns, and source-controlled schema change management

Maintain runbooks and documentation for high availability, disaster recovery, and recovery procedures

Manage and track database-related tasks and incidents using Jira

Participate in the on-call rotation for after-hours production database issues

Provide technical mentorship and day-to-day guidance to DBA and engineering team members

Evaluate and support cloud database migrations and hybrid infrastructure improvements

Use AI coding assistants (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot,) to accelerate day-to-day administration, scripting, and troubleshooting

Ensure database platforms are ready for AI-driven application workloads, including vector search and high-concurrency data access, in support of the company’s AI strategy

This job description in no way implies that the duties listed here are the only ones team members may be required to perform.
