About the job
About Rivian Rivian is on a mission to keep the world adventurous forever. This goes for the emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles we build, and the curious, courageous souls we seek to attract. As a company, we constantly challenge what’s possible, never simply accepting what has always been done. We reframe old problems, seek new solutions and operate comfortably in areas that are unknown. Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations. Role Summary You will champion and deliver user experience design across Rivian’s future-forward digital offerings. You will focus on complex features that live across the vehicle interface and the mobile app. This role centers on designing and delivering intuitive, thorough, and delightful interactions. You will become very knowledgeable on key functions in the product, understanding the underlying hardware or mechanical aspects in order to design for these elements. Working a hybrid onsite schedule at our Palo Alto Digital Studio offices, you will collaborate with design, engineering, product, and hardware teams to distill experience goals into concrete requirements. Candidates strongly preferred with significant experience in shipping complex software and hardware products. Responsibilities Lead UX/UI design for key features in the Rivian vehicle and mobile experience. Experience with automotive UX design or other complex hardware/software products is a plus. Familiarity with designing companion mobile app features is a plus. Translate desired experiences into clear, actionable requirements. Collaborate deeply with product managers and engineering partners. Benchmark industry UI/UX and feature offerings as needed to ensure designs are unique and pushing the envelope in the industry. Present design concepts to leadership and cross-functional teams, advocating for a user-centered approach. Deliver high quality, organized production files and provide any and all clarifications needed to engineering partners. QA your designs in the vehicle and app to pixel perfect final execution. Qualifications Portfolio Required: Include a link to your portfolio showcasing relevant credentials and work samples that demonstrate expertise for this role. Applications without a portfolio link & access will not be considered. Bachelor’s or Master’s in Interaction Design, Human Factors, Product Design, or related discipline. 7+ years’ experience delivering end-to-end digital UX for an automotive company, digital technology company or similar domains. Strong portfolio highlighting UX solutions relating to those requirements. Deep proficiency with digital UX design and prototyping tools. (Figma, ProtoPie, or similar) Proficiency with AI workflows and AI prototypes is a big plus. Proven ability to collaborate with user research. Collaborative mindset—easily partners with product, engineering, and design teams spanning hardware, embedded software, and cloud environments.
