Business Development Director- Oil & Gas
Job Summary
Core Group Resources is hiring a Business Development Director for a leading autonomous marine technology client expanding into offshore energy. This senior individual contributor role connects customer discovery, product development, and sales, using deep industry relationships to understand offshore operators’ logistics and marine support needs and turn validated solutions into signed contracts.
The ideal candidate is a seasoned offshore oil and gas commercial leader with a strong Gulf of America and international network, a consultative, discovery-led selling style, and the drive to build a new market with a high degree of autonomy. This role reports to the Vice President, Commercial and carries no direct reports.
Responsibilities
Develop a focused market and account plan, prioritizing offshore energy customers in the Gulf of America and international markets where the client’s capabilities best fit
Build multiple relationships within each target account, reaching logistics leaders, marine managers, operations executives, procurement, and budget owners
Lead structured discovery to define each customer’s current state, underlying problems, business impact, and desired future state before proposing solutions
Build quantified, customer-validated business cases for change
Convert discovery into qualified pipeline with named stakeholders, mapped decision processes, funding paths, timelines, and agreed next steps
Own opportunities end to end through proposal, negotiation, customer evaluations, and contract award
Partner with product and engineering teams to translate customer needs into capability requirements and product specifications
Monitor customer evaluations against agreed success criteria and provide structured feedback on performance, capability gaps, and adoption barriers without making unsupported commitments
Maintain accurate CRM records, forecast from evidence, deliver concise weekly reporting, and disqualify opportunities the evidence no longer supports
Document and share successful account strategies, adapting them to regional buying practices and customer approval processes
Requirements
15+ years in offshore oil and gas business development, commercial leadership, logistics, or marine support, with a record of originating and winning complex, multi-stakeholder deals
Deep, current network among Gulf of America operators and offshore drilling contractors, with established relationships in logistics, marine support, supply chain, and operations
Proven international business development success across offshore markets
Strong working knowledge of offshore operations, logistics, and marine support, including the cost of service disruptions to operators
Consultative, discovery-led selling experience at senior levels, with exceptional listening and questioning skills
Commercial and financial fluency in total cost of ownership, pricing, margins, and contract structures, plus strong executive communication and negotiation skills
Demonstrated ability to translate customer needs into capability requirements and collaborate with technical teams on product specifications and priorities
Understanding of how operators and drillers qualify new vendors and technology, including HSE requirements and technical approval processes
Self-directed, accountable, and comfortable working through ambiguity in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Requirements
MBA or relevant advanced degree
Experience applying Gap Selling and Level 5 listening methodologies
Experience commercializing new marine technology or building new offshore service models
