About the job
QB Capital is a nimble, high-priority business unit and the fastest-growing SMB lending business in the market. As the team scales origination, we need a principal-level product leader who can sit at the intersection of credit, data, and customer needs and turn that into a roadmap that drives growth. This role exists to:
Scale a cash-flow-based lending product with both a credit and a product lens — growth and risk discipline have to be designed together, not traded off after the fact.
Connect the dots between credit, data, and customers to build a roadmap that unlocks origination growth — translating what we know about borrowers into product bets that move the top of the funnel and conversion, not just backend decisioning.
Up-level QB Capital's credit point of view so the team is prioritizing its biggest opportunities — bringing a sharper, more proactive read on where credit strategy can unlock (rather than just protect) growth.
Responsibilities
Scale the product with a credit lens
Own the roadmap for QB Capital's cash-flow-based lending products, balancing origination growth against portfolio economics (loss rates, contribution margin, funding cost)
Partner with Risk and Data Science to translate underwriting and pricing strategy into shippable product — eligibility, offer generation, limits, and the borrower-facing experience around them
Connect credit, data, and customers into a growth roadmap
Use QuickBooks' accounting and transaction data, portfolio performance, and direct customer input to identify the highest-leverage opportunities to grow origination
Build and prioritize a roadmap spanning acquisition, eligibility, underwriting, offer design, and servicing — sequencing bets by expected impact on growth and risk
Be the connective tissue between Credit/Risk, Data Science, Data Engineering, Engineering, Design, Marketing, Finance, Compliance, and GTM so decisions get made with the full picture, not in silos
Up-level the credit point of view
Bring an independent, forward-looking perspective on credit strategy — not just executing what Risk hands off, but identifying where credit policy itself is the growth lever
Design credit policy proposals and product bets that improve business KPIs; convert credit risk analyses into actionable business opportunities, not just risk reports
Build the analytical case for new product/credit bets: size the opportunity, define success metrics, and drive stakeholder alignment on what to prioritize and why
Represent QB Capital's credit strategy point of view to senior stakeholders and influence how the broader Payments & Capital roadmap gets sequenced
Qualifications
Must Have
10-12+ years of product management experience, including direct ownership of a product with real P&L or portfolio-economics accountability (cash-flow-based lending, credit cards, or similar)
A demonstrated ability to connect data and credit thinking to product decisions, comfortable working through underwriting logic, portfolio metrics, and risk/return tradeoffs alongside more traditional product craft
Strong analytical fluency (SQL and portfolio/data analysis at minimum); track record of building the business case for where to invest, not just executing an existing roadmap
Experience operating as a senior IC, able to set direction and align cross-functional stakeholders (Risk, Data Science, Engineering, Compliance, Finance) without formal authority over them
Excellent written and verbal communication; able to move fluidly between underwriting mechanics, engineering scoping, and executive-level strategy conversations
Experience scaling a lending or financing product through multiple growth stages, including through a credit cycle
Nice to Have
Credit, lending, or underwriting product experience is a strong plus but not required, we're hiring for this combination of product judgment and quantitative/credit fluency first
Experience with SMB or accounting/financial data (QuickBooks, Xero, bank transaction data, or similar), QB Capital's edge is built on this data, and familiarity with how SMBs actually run their books is a meaningful accelerant
Machine learning / model-driven decisioning fluency (e.g., partnering with a data science team shipping underwriting or pricing models to production)
