Position Overview
Align seeks an Assistant Project Manager to support second-shift construction activities for a data center build-out in the Ann Arbor area. This is a field-facing opportunity for someone with construction experience who is ready to take on more responsibility coordinating contractors, tracking progress, and keeping work moving onsite.
Working closely with the lead Project Manager and daytime team, this person will serve as Align’s onsite point of contact during the second shift. The role requires someone who is comfortable walking the jobsite, communicating with contractors and clients, and addressing issues as they arise.
Candidates with experience in assistant project management, project engineering, field coordination, or construction supervision are encouraged to apply. A background in commercial, industrial, electrical, or low-voltage construction is preferred. Previous data center experience is a plus but is not required.
This position requires working onsite during the second shift, approximately 4:00 p.m. to midnight.
This is a full-time position offering full benefits, paid training, and opportunities for career growth.
Responsibilities
Coordinate second-shift construction activities with the lead Project Manager, contractors, vendors, and client representatives
Review the planned work with the daytime team and confirm priorities, work areas, material needs, and outstanding issues before the shift begins
Walk the jobsite regularly to track progress, identify installation issues, and confirm work follows project drawings, specifications, and site requirements
Help coordinate data center fit-out activities, which may include cabinets, containment, cable pathways, structured cabling, and associated power and cooling work
Monitor contractor progress against the daily plan and communicate delays, access restrictions, material shortages, or conflicts that could affect the schedule
Reinforce site safety requirements and promptly escalate unsafe conditions or work outside the approved scope
Maintain daily reports, progress photos, issue logs, and punch lists. Help document field questions and potential changes for the project team’s review
Provide a clear handoff to the daytime team covering completed work, open items, and priorities for the following shift
Support inspections, testing, punch-list completion, and project turnover as needed
Qualifications
Previous experience supporting or supervising onsite construction activities, including coordinating contractors and tracking work in the field
Ability to read construction drawings and understand installation requirements, work sequencing, and jobsite safety expectations
Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to follow through on open items and keep the project team informed
Comfortable taking ownership of assigned work, addressing routine field issues, and recognizing when to involve the lead Project Manager
Previous data center construction experience or experience in commercial or industrial construction, electrical installations, structured cabling, or other critical facilities will be considered
Familiarity with Microsoft Office and construction documentation tools such as Bluebeam or Procore is helpful
Ability to work onsite consistently during the required second-shift hours
To support a fair, consistent, and high-quality hiring experience, some interviews may be recorded. These recordings help our team focus fully on the conversation at hand, rather than note-taking, and allow us to better evaluate and improve our recruitment process. Recordings are used solely for internal purposes such as training, quality assurance, and process improvement. Candidates will be informed in advance and asked to provide consent before any recording takes place.
