About the job
Who We Are:
Foxen advances financial wellness through multi-family real estate. Founded in 2018 and headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, we provide a platform of compliance solutions for multifamily property owners, operators and residents.
We’ve built a profitable, growing business in a challenging market. Customers stay and expand with us. Our product portfolio continues to deepen. And we still have significant room to grow.
That kind of momentum takes a specific kind of person: high standards, a builder's mindset, and ambition without ego. If that sounds like you, you'll find a supportive place to grow here.
Why This Role:
This opportunity is designed for an experienced in-house attorney who is ready to expand their leadership scope and have a meaningful voice in business decisions.
As a member of Foxen’s extended leadership team, you will help establish and execute company and Legal department objectives while working directly with senior leaders across the organization. Because our CLIO also oversees Foxen’s Insurance Solutions department, you will assume meaningful ownership within the Legal function and gain valuable exposure to both the legal and commercial sides of the insurance business.
You will also continue developing as a people leader by managing an experienced Corporate Counsel and helping shape how the Legal function supports Foxen as the company grows.
If you are a commercially minded attorney who enjoys solving complex problems, building strong cross-functional partnerships, and taking ownership in a growing organization, we would love to hear from you.
Role Overview:
As Associate General Counsel, you will report directly to Foxen’s Chief Legal and Insurance Officer (CLIO) and play a key leadership role within the Legal function. You will manage and develop our Corporate Counsel, partner closely with our Compliance Manager, and serve as a trusted advisor to leaders across the business.
Foxen operates at the intersection of property technology, insurance, and financial services. You will advise on a broad range of matters, including commercial agreements, strategic partnerships, insurance and consumer regulation, product development, privacy and data security, AI governance, employment matters, disputes, and corporate governance.
This is a highly collaborative and visible role. In a given week, you might negotiate an agreement with a strategic customer or partner, advise Product and Engineering on a new offering, respond to a regulatory inquiry, or help establish responsible practices for the company’s use of AI.
What You’ll Do:
Partner in Leading the Legal Team
Work closely with the CLIO on the department’s priorities, risk, and strategy, and help manage day-to-day legal work across the team.
Manage, mentor, and develop the Corporate Counsel, setting priorities and helping them grow in scope and judgment.
Translate company and Legal OKRs into team priorities and track execution against them.
Select and manage outside counsel when matters call for specialized expertise.
Commercial Transactions
Negotiate, draft, and review a broad range of commercial agreements, including customer agreements, agreements with vendors, technology agreements, and referral and strategic partnership agreements.
Partner with Revenue Operations, Sales, and Relationship Management to move deals efficiently, giving practical, risk-based advice that protects the company and supports growth.
Support significant business projects and strategic transactions.
Insurance, Regulatory, Product, & Operations Counseling
Advise on property and casualty insurance regulatory matters and partner with our Insurance Solutions team on insurance product development and servicing.
Serve as product counsel to our Product team, which develops Foxen’s non-insurance products, helping build offerings that meet landlord-tenant, Fair Housing Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, consumer protection, and privacy requirements.
Provide counsel and legal support to our Implementation and Customer Operations teams, including address questions or concerns from our mulit-family housing owner and operator customers and their tenants
Oversee monitoring of state and federal legislative and regulatory developments, working with our Compliance Manager to assess business impact and translate new requirements into practical guidance.
Manage pre-litigation, litigation, and regulatory inquiry matters.
Compliance, Governance & Privacy
Provide legal guidance on Foxen’s corporate compliance program, including developing policies and guiding the Compliance Manager and business teams on compliance initiatives.
Advise on data privacy, data security, and AI governance, and partner with Finance and IT/Security on vendor compliance reviews, SOC 2 Type II readiness, and audit preparedness.
Support Foxen’s AI Governance and Policy & Procedure Committees, helping turn governance decisions into action.
Support corporate governance and legal entity management, including annual filings, and advise on employment matters.
Legal Operations & AI
Build scalable legal processes, playbooks, templates, and policies that make the team faster and more consistent.
Bring an AI-first mindset to legal work, using AI-enabled tools for research, contract review, knowledge management, and workflow automation while maintaining sound judgment on confidentiality and risk.

Deep commercial contracting experience. You’ve negotiated and drafted a high volume of customer, vendor, and technology agreements and can run a negotiation independently.
