Job Summary
The Manager, Finance – External Reporting will play a key role in Verano’s corporate finance function as the Company operates in a unique regulatory framework in the cannabis industry. As a publicly traded multi-state operator in one of the most dynamic and rapidly evolving sectors, Verano faces complex accounting and reporting matters that require both technical expertise and sound judgment. In this role, you will help shape how the Company communicates its financial results to investors, regulators, and other external stakeholders, and you will work at the intersection of technical accounting, consolidation, internal controls, and external disclosure on a daily basis.
The Manager of External Reporting is responsible for supporting the preparation and issuance of the Company’s external financial reporting, including filings with the SEC (Forms 10-K, 10-Q, and 8-K), earnings releases and investor materials, and other external financial communications, as well as technical accounting research, consolidation reporting, and the maintenance of the Company’s accounting policies and procedures. Reporting to the Sr. Manager, Finance – External Reporting, this position provides meaningful exposure to senior management, the Audit Committee, Investor Relations, and finance and operations leaders across the organization. The role is also viewed as a key developmental position, offering the opportunity to strengthen leadership capabilities and progress into larger finance leadership roles over time.
The ideal candidate has a strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting requirements, is extremely organized and detail oriented, communicates clearly with both technical and non-technical audiences, is willing to roll up their sleeves during peak reporting periods, and is full of ideas for using technology and process improvements to make the close and reporting cycle more efficient, timely, and accurate.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Lead the preparation and review of the Company’s quarterly and annual consolidated financial statements, footnotes, and supporting schedules for Forms 10-Q and 10-K, as well as Form 8-K and other SEC filings, ensuring conformity with U.S. GAAP and SEC Regulations S-X and S-K.
Manage the external reporting calendar, disclosure checklists, and tie-out process, and coordinate XBRL tagging and review workflows in the Company’s reporting platform (Workiva/Wdesk).
Partner with Investor Relations, FP&A, Legal, and Treasury in the preparation and review of earnings releases, investor presentations, and other external financial communications to ensure consistency with the filed financial statements.
Monitor accounting literature and SEC rulemaking for new reporting requirements that may impact the Company, assess their impact, and support the implementation of new accounting standards and disclosure rules.
Prepare quarterly accounting and regulatory update materials and other presentations for senior management and the Audit Committee.
Perform technical accounting research and prepare position memos on new and complex transactions, including business combinations and divestitures, consolidation and variable interest entities, segment reporting, impairment, leases, contingencies, equity method investments, share-based compensation, going concern, significance testing, and statement of cash flows presentation.
Own key recurring accounting and reporting areas such as the consolidated statement of cash flows, segment reporting, earnings per share, lease accounting, and annual impairment testing.
Consult with finance and operating personnel across the Company’s businesses on accounting questions and the implementation of financial policies and procedures, advising on the accounting implications of business decisions.
Work closely with key stakeholders in the development, revision, and maintenance of the Company’s accounting policies and procedures.
Act as a liaison with internal and external auditors on matters involving technical accounting, internal controls, and SEC reporting, and own the design and operation of SOX controls within the external reporting process.
Conduct periodic analyses of financial results and disclosures to advise management on trends and emerging matters.
Supervise, develop, and mentor external reporting staff, and contribute to the attraction, development, and retention of talent across Corporate Finance & Accounting.
