About the job

About the Company Our client is a global provider of advanced warehouse automation, robotics, and material handling solutions. The company specializes in designing and delivering innovative automated storage and retrieval systems that help businesses optimize warehouse operations, improve efficiency, and streamline supply chain processes. With an international presence and a strong focus on innovation, the organization partners with leading businesses and systems integrators to deliver complex, large-scale automation projects across North America and beyond.

About the Role We are seeking an experienced Project Engineer to lead engineering activities for advanced warehouse automation and robotic storage solutions, from initial project kick-off through to final site handover. In this role, you will serve as the primary technical point of contact for customers, systems integrators, and internal engineering teams, ensuring the successful design, integration, and delivery of automated material handling solutions. You will work on projects ranging from $1M to $30M, involving technologies such as automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS), pallet and tote shuttles, autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), robotic picking systems, conveyors, and lifts. The ideal candidate combines strong mechanical engineering expertise with hands-on experience in warehouse automation, ASRS, and post-sales project engineering, along with excellent technical coordination and problem-solving skills.

Key Responsibilities Lead and coordinate engineering activities throughout the project lifecycle, from initial kick-off through installation, commissioning, and final handover. Serve as the primary technical point of contact for customer and systems integrator engineering teams. Review customer specifications, technical documentation, and project requirements to develop detailed engineering designs and approval drawings. Coordinate the preparation of assembly drawings, technical documentation, and Professional Engineer (PE) stamped drawings. Collaborate with project management, engineering, and production teams to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget. Support the design and integration of automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS), robotic solutions, conveyors, and associated material handling equipment. Work closely with electrical and controls engineering teams to define electro-mechanical specifications and system requirements. Collaborate with software engineering teams to support integration with customer Warehouse Control Systems (WCS) and Warehouse Execution Systems (WES). Coordinate with supply chain and project management teams to source materials, equipment, and external services. Manage engineering change requests, assess technical impacts, and communicate cost implications to relevant stakeholders. Provide technical support to installation teams and site managers, resolving engineering challenges during installation and commissioning. Support contractor selection by providing technical information and specifications for installation quotations. Conduct occasional site visits for measurements, inspections, installation reviews, and technical troubleshooting. Collaborate with sales teams, customers, and external vendors to ensure seamless integration of automation solutions. Prepare technical reports, project updates, and presentations covering engineering progress, project performance, and potential ROI. Ensure engineering designs and proposed solutions comply with applicable industry standards and safety regulations. Stay informed on emerging technologies and industry developments in robotics, warehouse automation, and material handling systems. Required Skills & Experience Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related technical field. Several years of post-sales engineering experience within the material handling, warehousing, or intralogistics industry, with direct experience in automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS). Strong understanding of automated warehouse systems, mechanical engineering principles, and robotic system design. Experience working with automated material handling technologies, including shuttle systems, conveyors, robotic solutions, or related equipment. Proficiency in AutoCAD or similar engineering design software. Experience reviewing technical drawings, engineering specifications, and customer requirements. Ability to coordinate engineering activities across multiple disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, controls, and software engineering. Strong understanding of engineering project lifecycles, from design and production through installation and commissioning. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and technical troubleshooting skills. Strong organizational and project coordination skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to explain complex technical information to non-technical audiences. Ability to work collaboratively with customers, systems integrators, project managers, and cross-functional engineering teams. Additional Information Travel: Approximately 5-15% travel to customer sites across the United States and occasionally Canada, typically for 2-3 days at a time. International Collaboration: Regular interaction with engineering and project teams based in Europe, with occasional international travel possible. Working Hours: Standard business hours are approximately 8:00 AM-5:00 PM Central Time, with some flexibility for earlier start and finish times to accommodate international collaboration. Why Consider This Opportunity? This is an opportunity to play a key role in delivering complex, high-value warehouse automation projects for customers across North America. You will work with advanced robotics and automated storage technologies, collaborate with experienced international engineering teams, and take ownership of engineering activities from concept through successful implementation. The role offers exposure to large-scale automation projects, innovative technologies, and the opportunity to make a direct impact on how businesses modernize their warehouse and logistics operations. If you are a Project Engineer with hands-on ASRS experience, a strong mechanical engineering background, and a passion for warehouse automation and robotics, we’d love to hear from you.
