We're hiring an experienced Logistics Manager to assist in our regional freight operation. This person has moved freight in every mode: ocean, air, truck, rail, intermodal and parcel. They know how product gets from a supplier's dock to a customer's door, what it costs, and what duties and tariffs add along the way. This role also requires a deep knowledge and understanding on International IncoTerms, DOE Government Funding programs or other equivalent (i.e. Cargo Preference Act, Davis Bacon Act).
Tariff environments remain volatile. This role requires basic knowledge of U.S. duty programs that can stack up on a single shipment and articulate the cost impact to people outside the department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Global freight management. Own daily planning and execution across ocean, air, truck, rail and intermodal, heavy lift operations, tug and barge services including drayage and final mile.
• Carrier and provider management. Select and manage service carriers, forwarders and 3PLs. Run RFQs, negotiate contracts and hold providers to service levels according to Regional developed standards and procedures.
• Market awareness. Track rates, capacity and fuel. Decide when to lock contract rates and when to use the spot market.
• Tariff and duty exposure. Review sourcing and routing decisions for duty impact. Flag high-risk lanes early and model landed cost before bookings are made.
• Compliance partnership. Work with Trade Compliance and customs brokers on classification, country of origin, valuation and entry accuracy.
• Exception management. Resolve delays, holds, exams, demurrage and detention. Find the root cause and fix it.
• Cost control. Manage the transportation budget, audit freight invoices and report variances.
• Change Management. Knowledge of change management processes
• Transportation Insurance Claim . Knowledge of navigating transportation regulatory limits of damage claims
• Reporting. Build KPI reports and present results to leadership in plain language.
• Team leadership. Coach and develop coordinators and analysts. Set clear goals and hold the team accountable.
Required Qualifications
• 10+ years of project logistics or transportation experience, with at least 4 years in international freight.
• Hands-on experience in all major modes: ocean (FCL and LCL), Tug and Barge, air, truckload, LTL, rail, heavy lift and intermodal.
• Working knowledge of Incoterms, bills of lading, air waybills, commercial invoices and packing lists.
• Working knowledge of U.S. tariff programs: HTS classification, country of origin, Section 301, Section 232 and AD/CVD.
• Understanding of how duty layers, entry timing and origin changes affect landed cost.
• Experience working with a licensed customs broker and with CBP entry processes and tariff analysis.
• Strong knowledge of global trade lanes, port congestion, canal restrictions and carrier alliance behavior.
• Proven record of managing carrier contracts and negotiating rates.
• Advanced Excel skills and experience with a TMS. ERP experience is a plus.
• Strong written and verbal communication. Able to explain tariff impact to non-experts.
