About the job

Des Moines, Iowa, Newkirk Zwagerman, P.L.C. is located in Des Moines, Iowa, and Minneapolis, Minnesota. We represent employees facing discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and other workplace injustices. These cases involve more than employment disputes. They involve careers, reputations, livelihoods, and the right to be treated fairly. Our practice also includes representing female coaches and administrators in college athletics who face sex discrimination. Build your career standing up for people. Newkirk Zwagerman is seeking an attorney with 2 to 5 years of experience who wants to make a difference right away: taking depositions, arguing motions in front of the court, and carrying real responsibility for cases that matter to our clients. This is not a position where you will wait years to get on your feet. Our associates take and defend depositions, argue discovery and dispositive motions in state and federal court, and stand up in front of judges early in their careers. We want someone who is eager for that responsibility and ready to grow into it quickly. We are also looking for a strong thinker and persuasive writer: someone who enjoys digging into a complex record, identifying what matters, and developing arguments that help a court understand both the law and the human experience behind a case. In this role, you will work closely with experienced trial lawyers on case strategy, depositions, substantive motions and briefs, oral argument, discovery, and trial preparation. You will have a meaningful role in building cases, not simply completing isolated assignments. We also actively explore responsible uses of AI to strengthen legal analysis and improve how lawyers work. We leverage AI to help maintain a work-life balance while providing opportunities to grow personal income. Curiosity and a willingness to learn are welcome; programming skills or advanced AI expertise are not required. Professional judgment, accuracy, and confidentiality remain essential. Location: An attorney located in Des Moines, Iowa is preferred, but locations in Minnesota will also be considered. Remote work outside those jurisdictions is possible for the right candidate. If you want to develop as a litigator, take ownership of meaningful work, and help people challenge unfair treatment, we would like to hear from you. *To apply: Send a résumé, substantive writing sample, and detailed statement of interest to Sam at sgriffiths@newkirklaw.com. The right candidate will bring:

Excellent legal research and writing skills. Confidence, or a strong desire to build confidence, taking depositions and arguing in court. Sound judgment and attention to detail. Initiative, organization, and dependable follow-through. The ability to work independently while collaborating with a small team. A genuine interest in advocating for employees and protecting civil rights. Wage/Salary: Base salary starting at $100,000, with higher compensation depending on experience and qualifications, plus bonus opportunities and benefits.

Benefits: Shareholder track, Bonus opportunities, Health benefits
