About the job
Overview
NFI Industries is seeking a Financial Operations Analyst I to support the Cash Administration team, which covers Cash Application, Freight Bill Audit, Carrier Payment Support and Accounts Payable. This is a support and analysis role, not a transaction processing role. The analyst reviews the data behind the work, finds where and why things break, builds reporting and metrics, documents processes, and supports NFI’s move from Lawson to Workday Financials.
Responsibilities
The ideal candidate is curious, detail-oriented and comfortable working with large data sets. This entry-level role is a strong starting point for someone who wants to grow a career in finance operations analysis and finance systems.
Data Review and Problem Analysis
Review unapplied and unidentified cash data by customer, business line, bank account and age to find patterns and root causes.
Analyze AP exceptions (missing POs, price or quantity mismatches, duplicates, coding errors) to see where they come from and how often.
Review remittance sources (email, EDI 820, customer portals) and Rossum results to find where data is missing, late or not usable.
Spot repeat issues by customer, vendor, source system or process step and bring findings to the team with suggested fixes.
Prepare research packages so the team and Accounting can make decisions on write-offs, refunds and overpayments.
Reporting and Metrics
Build and maintain weekly and monthly metrics for unapplied cash, unidentified cash, AP exceptions and carrier payment issues.
Pull and prepare data from Lawson, Rossum and Excel-based reports; keep reports accurate and on time.
Track progress on process improvement goals and show trends over time.
Answer ad hoc data requests from the Cash Administration team and Finance leadership.
Process and Tool Support
Document current processes, handoffs and roles (for example, between Cash Application and Collections).
Write and maintain step-by-step procedures and job aids.
Help identify training gaps (such as tool features users don’t know about) and support training sessions.
Test and validate changes to tools, rules and import files (for example, Rossum and Lawson import files) before they go live.
Help track open issues and follow them through to resolution with the right owner.
Workday Financials Transition Support
Document current-state cash application, AP and carrier payment processes and data flows.
Review and clean up open AR, open AP, customer and supplier data ahead of conversion.
Validate converted data, tying Lawson balances and open items to Workday.
Help write and run test scenarios for cash application, AP, bank settlement and payments, and log issues.
Learn Workday Financials early, help build training materials, and support the team through go-live and the first month-end closes.
Other
Perform other duties and responsibilities as required by the role and determined by management.
This role is based in Camden, NJ and reports to the Cash Administration Manager. The Cash Administration team is part of Financial Services and is responsible for cash application, freight bill audit, carrier payment support and accounts payable.
Qualifications
Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Information Systems or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
Zero to two years of experience in a finance, accounting or data analysis role (internships count); exposure to accounts receivable, cash application or accounts payable is a plus.
Strong Excel skills: pivot tables, lookups (XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP) and working with large data sets.
Strong attention to detail and curiosity about why the numbers look the way they do.
Clear written and verbal communication; able to explain findings simply.
Self-starter who follows an issue through to the end and can manage multiple priorities, including month-end.
Willingness to learn new systems and processes.
Exposure to an ERP system such as Workday, Lawson/Infor, Oracle or SAP preferred.
Experience with document/OCR tools (such as Rossum), EDI remittances or bank portals preferred.
Basic SQL, Microsoft Access, Power Query or Power BI skills preferred.
Experience in transportation, logistics or another high-volume billing environment preferred.
Interest in finance systems and system implementations; familiarity with Workday Financials a plus.
