We are seeking an Inventory & Cost Accountant for the Water Transmission business. This hands-on role is responsible for the accuracy of inventory and product cost across our manufacturing plants and plays a key part in building and stabilizing an SAP-based cost accounting framework in a continuous-process manufacturing environment.

Working closely with plant operations, supply chain, and the broader finance team, you will own inventory accounting and reconciliations, prepare manufacturing variance analysis, and maintain the cost data that drives margin visibility and decision-making. Experience in continuous-flow manufacturing such as PVC pipe, plastics, or chemicals is strongly preferred.

Job Location

This position can be based out of Colfax, NC or Endicott, NY. There will be travel to plant sites as required

Job Responsibilities

Own monthly inventory accounting for raw materials (resin and additives), work-in-process, and finished goods, including reconciliation of the SAP inventory subledger to the general ledger

Coordinate physical inventory counts and cycle count programs with plant teams; investigate count variances and record adjustments

Prepare inventory reserve analyses, including excess and obsolete and lower of cost or net realizable value, to support balance sheet accuracy

Monitor inventory valuation, aging, and turns, and flag slow-moving or at-risk inventory to operations and supply chain

Maintain standard costs in SAP, including bills of material, routings, and activity rates, and support the annual standard cost roll and inventory revaluation

Prepare monthly manufacturing variance analysis (purchase price, material usage, labor, overhead absorption, yield, and scrap) and explain the operational drivers behind results

Perform process and production order settlement, WIP, and variance postings within SAP, and review cost estimates for accuracy

Analyze resin and raw material cost movements and quantify their impact on product cost and margin

Prepare journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations for inventory, cost of goods sold, and manufacturing overhead within close deadlines

Maintain compliance with CRH financial controls and audit requirements, and support internal and external audit requests

Maintain the integrity of cost master data, including cost centers, material master costing views, and activity types

Identify opportunities to reduce manual workarounds and spreadsheets, and support system-based solutions and SAP enhancements

Partner with plant managers, production, and supply chain to ensure production reporting, material consumption, and scrap are recorded accurately and on time

Provide cost analysis and modeling to support pricing, capital requests, process improvements, and margin management

Translate cost results into practical insights for non-finance stakeholders, building credibility through regular engagement and on-site presence

Support plant teams in adopting new costing processes and tools as the cost accounting framework is implemented

Job Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

3+ years of cost or inventory accounting experience in a manufacturing environment

Working knowledge of standard costing, inventory valuation, and variance analysis under US GAAP
