THE ROLE:

Lead the strategy, architecture, and delivery of enterprise storage and data protection platforms supporting both EDA (Electronic Design Automation) and corporate workloads. This role is responsible for defining scalable, high-performance, and resilient storage solutions across datacenter and cloud environments, while ensuring alignment with business objectives, security, compliance, and cost optimization. The position also oversees operational excellence, innovation (including AI-scale workloads), and engineering team leadership.

THE PERSON:

Strong leadership and people management skills with the ability to mentor and grow high-performing teams

Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into business outcomes for executive stakeholders

Collaborative mindset with strong stakeholder management across Engineering, IT, Security, and Compliance

Strategic thinker with a balance of innovation and pragmatic execution

Problem-solving orientation with a focus on continuous improvement and operational excellence

Customer-focused approach with an emphasis on user experience and service reliability

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Own and evolve the storage platform roadmap and reference architectures across file, block, object storage, and data protection, balancing EDA performance requirements with enterprise resilience, compliance, and cost goals across on-premises and cloud environments.

Lead storage design reviews for EDA workflows, including metadata-intensive and high-IOPS/low-latency build, test, simulation, and regression workloads, and design solutions supporting AI workloads, including >5 TB/s training throughput.

Establish standard patterns for tiering, archiving, retention, immutability (WORM), and disaster recovery, including RPO/RTO, replication, and failover.

Ensure storage segmentation and isolation align with performance and security requirements, and align all architectures with security, encryption, RBAC, audit logging, and data governance standards.

Own end-to-end storage and backup service delivery, including availability, performance, capacity, recoverability, and user experience; define and track SLAs/SLOs for latency, throughput, backup success, restore times, and replication health.

Lead major incident management, root-cause analysis, and corrective and preventive actions; develop and maintain runbooks, playbooks, and operational procedures with continuous-improvement loops.

Drive storage observability, monitoring, and performance optimization, and integrate storage platforms with enterprise tooling, including ServiceNow, CMDB, and observability platforms.

Lead automation initiatives using AI tools, Infrastructure as Code, and scripting, including Ansible, Terraform, Python, and PowerShell; enable automation across provisioning, quotas, snapshots, replication, and policy enforcement while promoting self-service models, standardized templates, and governance guardrails.

Own capacity planning, forecasting, cloud FinOps alignment, and TCO optimization; manage vendor relationships, contracts, renewals, RFPs, technology evaluations, and lifecycle management, including upgrades, refreshes, and decommissioning.

Manage and mentor onshore and offshore engineering teams, including hiring, performance management, and succession planning; foster a culture of reliability, automation, documentation, and partnership; act as the storage SME across Engineering, IT, InfoSec, Compliance, and Data teams; partner with application owners and communicate technical strategy, risks, and outcomes to executive leadership.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

Experience in enterprise storage and data protection across file, block, and object storage, including open, software-defined, and vendor-neutral storage ecosystems.

Proven expertise in high-performance storage solutions for EDA, HPC, and AI/ML workloads, including supporting EDA tools such as Cadence, Synopsys, and Siemens EDA, or similar I/O-intensive systems.

Deep knowledge of NAS/SAN architectures, high-availability design, and storage networking, including FC, iSCSI, NFS, SMB, and S3.

Strong experience with backup and disaster recovery, including snapshots, replication, immutability, and air-gap strategies, with familiarity with data protection platforms such as Rubrik and Commvault.

Hands-on experience with enterprise storage platforms such as NetApp ONTAP, Dell PowerScale/Isilon, HPE, IBM, VAST, and WEKA, as well as public cloud storage across Azure, AWS, GCP, and OCI.

Strong understanding of observability, performance tuning, and troubleshooting, including IOPS, latency, throughput, congestion, and multipathing; familiarity with Linux environments, NFS tuning, and AD/LDAP integration.

Engineering team-management experience, with exposure to security and compliance frameworks, including SOX, ISO, NIST, data retention, and legal hold, and experience with change, incident, and problem-management processes.

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)

Master’s degree is an asset
