THE HEALTHCARE INITIATIVE
Where Talent Meets Opportunity
Chief Financial Officer
New York State
Position Description
Located in New York state, this nationally recognized 50-bed acute care hospital is a CMS 4-Star facility (three years running), a 2026 Forbes Top Hospital with a Five-Star rating, a 2026 Chartis Top 100 Rural & Community Hospital, and a National Rural Health Association Top 20 Rural Hospital. As a member of an integrated health system and the second largest employer in the county, the organization is guided by an ambitious vision for growth and a commitment to making decisions that will sustain the community for the next 20 years and beyond.
As the Chief Financial Officer, you will serve as a strategic partner to the CEO and senior leadership team, overseeing Finance, Patient Access, and Supply Chain through a team of directors and managers (approximately 25 FTEs). With approximately $258M in total patient revenue, the CFO will drive long-range financial strategy, including capital planning for a major Emergency Department renovation, cash and revenue projections, 340B program performance, the financial strategy behind provider recruitment, and analytics around swing bed utilization and ED admissions versus APP utilization. This is a strategy-driven role rather than a task-driven one. The ideal leader brings a high degree of integrity and accountability, presents the pros and cons of a decision rather than defaulting to “no,” has the courage to offer candid counsel behind closed doors, and fully commits once a decision is made. Highly collaborative and team-focused, the CFO leads by example across the senior team and works closely with system finance colleagues in Rochester. This position reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer.
Location wise, this offers the best of both worlds: a welcoming, community-focused rural setting with excellent school districts, very low crime, and abundant outdoor recreation, all with easy access to larger cities.
Requirements:
Master’s degree, required; MHA, MBA, or related graduate degree, preferred.
CPA, highly preferred.
Minimum of 5 years of progressive healthcare finance leadership experience, required.
Experience with 340B and rural health finance, strongly preferred.
Integrated health system experience, preferred.
Experience with Epic and Workday, preferred.
Benefits and Compensation:
$195k-$270k Compensation DOE, Medical, Pharmacy, Dental, and Vision Insurance, Life Insurance, PTO, along with many other great benefits.
